Memorial Day Weekend

My weekend started on Friday with one of my 4th grade students coming to me to ask if I would sign his shirt. He proceeded to tell me that he was not coming back to Beecher next year. He is going to a different school. He started crying and then told me that I was one of his favorite teachers at Beecher. I teared up and gave him a big hug. Moments like this keep you teaching. I told him that he would do great at his new school. He wanted to take his picture with me for his Beecher memory book:

Saturday we got up early and trucked it all the way to Waynesboro. Connor was great! She slept pretty much the whole way. I hope she becomes a good traveler just like her brother because we like to travel! Saturday night we went to Evans' graduation party. It was nice to be around Justin's family. MeMe kept Connor in her arms the whole time and and had a smile from ear to ear. Sunday was Evans' actual graduation. The weather was really bad but we decided to go anyway. We got dressed up and went to the high school. It was kind of a bummer because we had tickets but couldn't go in because there was a no child under 6 policy. I totally understand but it landed us in a classroom watching it on closed circuit television. Below is a picture of Connor watching Evans graduate with her daddy:

Today we headed back to Smyrna. Connor was beat from her big weekend but had just enough energy to fit a little smile in as MeMe was changing her diaper before we left:

In the car and almost asleep...

We Have a State Golf Championship in Our Family!

Well, not our immediate family of me, Kristin, Connor, and Oscar. My nephew, Evans, shot the best round of his high school career last Monday to help his team win the State Golf Tournament. Evans, or "E" as we call him, shot a 72, tied with another member of his own team and tied for second overall in the tournament; moreover, he birdied 3 of the last 5 holes to help his team when by one stroke. Not only is E a great golfer, but he's also a smart guy, too, as he will be attending Wofford College in South Carolina in the fall on a full-ride academic scholarship. We're incredibly proud of him and E's father (my brother, Sid) has yet to come down off of cloud nine following all the good news.

Connor has yet to meet her cousin, so we decided to make a little tribute video for him featuring the baby. I tried to make it look like she was "watching" the online news video of the tournament by getting a little creative with the editing. Take a look. Congrats again, Evans!

This weekend was so much fun! We started out celebrating my 30th birthday which wasn't so bad. Justin cooked for me and we relaxed after we put the baby down. It was very nice, thanks to my wonderful husband!

Kerri's graduation was fun because we got to see the girls and help her celebrate such a wonderful accomplishment. She graduated with her Specialists degree from Piedmont. The day was fun and tiring at the same time but well worth it. From Piedmont, we traveled to Athens to help CJ celebrate his graduation from UGA. The baby was wonderful. We were nervous because we didn't know how she was going to be with it being such a long day but she was great!

Today, we celebrated mother's day with my family in the morning and then Justin's family this evening. It is so great being a mother. There is no greater accomplishment, in my opinion. At least for now, let's see what kind of adult she grows up to be. That makes me a little nervous. We have a long but pleasant road ahead of us.

I included some pictures of the girls from Saturday. What a weekend!
